In December 2024, Afghans for Progressive Thinking (APT) launched the Mentorship for Higher Education program to support young Afghan women whose education had been disrupted by ongoing restrictions. Over several months, the program guided 23 students through applying to universities abroad, with the dedicated support of international mentors.
From crafting compelling personal statements and preparing for English proficiency exams to navigating application procedures and covering associated fees, participants received step-by-step guidance. The program also connected students with valuable academic and professional resources, helping them strengthen their university applications.
All 23 mentees successfully submitted applications to international institutions. Of these, 15 students received a total of 36 admission offers, including 7 full scholarships. Beyond these impressive results, the mentorship experience helped participants gain confidence, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Continued investment in programs like this is vital to protecting the right to education and empowering the next generation of Afghan women leaders.
